Thursday - Day One of Mommie and Daddy's vacation

Uncle Chris took Mommie and Daddy to the airport very early this morning! Though Nana and Dearie were left to tend the Darlings, Avery and Riggs didn't seem to mind at all that Mommie and Daddy were gone! (I'd like to express my gratitude to St. Anne, the patron saint for grandparents, for this one!!) After the morning milk baumbies and dressing in something warm, it was time for breakfast: scrambled eggs, ham, blueberry waffles and grapes. Both Avery and Riggs seem to enjoy feeding themselves much more than eating from a spoon!!

Avery seems to enjoy arranging her food in a specific manner. Not that she doesn't eat everything but she likes stuff segregated!

Riggs, on the other hand, doesn't need his food in any order . . . fruit on either side of the tray is fine and ham mixed up with waffles doesn't bother him a bit!

Avery doing the smoochie!

Then, Riggs gave the smoochie a shot!

With breakfast behind us, (and Nana and Dearie reviewing the schedule NUMEROUS times to make certain they get it right!) and very little playtime, Nana and Dearie bundled the babies up and managed to get the Darlings to day school by the appointed hour of 9. Nana was careful to write everyone's cell phone number on a slip of paper which she gave to the teacher at school, just in case there was a problem and they needed to reach us!

The doctor had called in a prescription for Avery earlier in the day which would need to be picked up at Target. The grandmothers decided that since there were a few other things we wanted to pick up that we would all go to Target to get our goods, the prescription AND, maybe grab lunch out before heading back to pick up the Darlings from school at 2.

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice . . . well, PopPop was out in the car (keeping it warm and listening to talk radio) while Nana and Dearie grabbed the stuff in the store. With a cart full, while waiting at the pharmacy counter, PopPop came in to find us; he said that Avery needed to be picked up from day school because she surely had the same eye thing going on that Riggs had had earlier in the week and the director thought it best for her to go home. School had called Mommie; Mommie got through to PopPop.

Hurry up, check out, off we went! On the way to school, noting that the weather was getting colder and rainier, we decided that it was probably best to take Riggs home when we picked up Avery.

When we arrived, we learned that Riggs had eaten lunch (but not Avery) and though Avery was awake, Riggs was napping! Do you wake a sleeping baby? We decided it was okay to wake Riggs (he'd be awake in another ten minutes anyway!). We gathered up their school bag (as well as their Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras gifts), put on their coats and hats, wrapped 'em up in their blankies and skooted out to the car just as quickly as we could! PopPop had been keeping the car warm AND parked it right in front of the breezeway so there was little chance of the Darlings getting wet!

Oh, those car seats! Did I say anything about those clasps / latches on the seats? I am sure they are designed so that babies can't unbuckle 'em but almost the same could be said for their security against grandparents! Sore thumbs and wrists from those things!!

The afternoon progressed just fine. Avery and Riggs played with each other very well. And, neither of the Darlings found all the attention being showered on them problematic!! They loved every minute of it. Both of them took naps in the afternoon, Riggs for almost an hour and Avery . . . more like two hours! During this time of quiet, Nana and Dearie talked about dinner for the grandparents. On Thursdays, the special at Little Veron's is stuffed pork chops. Nana and PopPop made a quick run to pick up what we weren't able to get earlier in the day on our outing, i.e., chicken salad, white bread, etc., and came home with all sorts of goodies for us!

Mommie had made smothered steak (complete with carrots and green beans!) with rice and gravy the day before so, that's what we fed the Darlings for dinner. We started out with a little cheese, then the big dinner followed by yogurt!

Baths finished and all medicine taken, the Darlings were enjoying their night time milk baumbies at 6:30! The stuffed pork chops in the oven and day one winding down (what's important here is that WE MADE IT THROUGH DAY ONE!)

What a day!! Avery slept in the Pack and Play in the playroom while Riggs enjoyed the comforts of his baby bed in the nursery! Both babies went straight to sleep. What little angels!! Little did we know . . . .
