Covering for Mommie and Daddy while they visit Doc-in-a-Box

Today's the day that Wiggins is supposed to be out to give an estimate for removing the urine stains (left by the raccoon in May) from my wood floors. I thought since they were coming out at 10, I'd just take a few hours leave from work so that I could do a few chores around here while waiting . . . that is, until the phone rang @ 8:09. It was Anne. She wanted to know if I could watch my darlings while she ran out to the Doc-in-a-Box (Tim was already at the Box with his cold) 'cause she thought she was really sick with something. She said the babies would be ready for their nap time around 9 and that Tim would be home just about that time. What's a Dearie to do? I dunno, but a mother never leaves her child in the lurch so I grabbed my purse and keys and hauled it to 107.

I got to the house at 8:17. Avery and Riggs were busy viewing Baby Einstein relaxing in their respective boppies on their pallet. Not so much as a whimper from them when Mommie rushed off to the Doc!! Riggs, as I've come to learn, needs no encouragement to smile; everytime I looked at him, his baumbie would tip off to the side of his mouth as he smiled. Avery, on the other hand, responds with a smile quite nicely everytime she hears "pretty girl." Needless to say, the babies were smiling quite a lot this morning.

Now that the stage is set, I can write what I witnessed and found to be so terribly sweet. I know that twins have a tighter relationship than other siblings (though I remember quite clearly how my Anne and Trey were so very close as babies!). But, at some point, I must not have been paying quite enough attention to Avery because she started with some little fussy sounds. I tried to quieten her down but had to feed Abigail her breakfast so she wouldn't lick on the babies' hands. When I returned to the living room (maybe 2 minutes later), there was less fussiness on Avery's part -- Riggs had reached across his boppie and was holding Avery's hand. When that wasn't quite enough to soothe her, he turned his head toward her and uttered some sounds (no, there were NO words . . . just sounds) and she calmed down. She turned her head towards him and made some other sounds for him!!

I was at least as present in the moment as a fly on the wall . . . but for the life of me, I can't figure out what Riggs said to Avery that took her from fussy to gibberish! My guess is this, although Riggs is the "baby brother" he's definitely going to be the one to look out for his big sis! Such sweet babies and its nice to have the privilege to continue watching them grow through all the stages! Darlings they are!

An afternoon interlude with the Darlings

As I opened the front door, I could hear Baby Einstein, happy little baby sounds and Mommie telling the twins, "Dearie's here! Dearie's here!" I knew (for certain) that it was play / activity time for Avery and Riggs, something they were obviously aware of 'cause they sounded like they were having a party. Of course, that meant I'd have a good while to play with my darlings before it was time for their dinner!

The babies were comfortably situated in their "play area" in the living room and clearly, dressed for dinner (which means, a diaper and a bib with NOTHING else on! Mommie and Daddy agree that the investments they've made in Pampers and wipes are sufficient, there's no need to get into the stain removal sector of the market . . . at least, not now!)

Right off, I noted that Avery -- with her plethora of girlie clothing -- was in the bib I bought a while back for Riggs, "Mane Man." I think a corner's been turned in dressing her. No more fuss about bibs matching the outfit, none of that. Face it, Avery can go through a dozen and a half bibs in one day what with her reflux! Whatever is clean AND handy will do just fine!!

As Mommie plays the belly buckle game, Avery is trying her best to pose for a picture but just can't seem to get over the troublesome task of paying attention to two things she enjoys at the same time!!

Now able to roll over when she wants to, Avery struck this pose (and actually held it for several shots on the camera) and was trying to instruct me in her newly discovered language! Coohing aside, she is now bold and emphatic with her utterances . . . I'm certain she knows exactly what she's communicating though I am at a loss to do anything other than mimic her. I guess that's how babies train us! I think she's telling me how cute she is . . . restating the obvious.

Riggs can handle two activities of interest simultaneously, Baby Einstein AND standing / sitting / bouncing on Mommie! Lacking sound, I will tell you that Riggs was demonstrating his new vocal abilities and was delighted with it all . . . yet, all the while, he kept his eyes fixed on Baby Einstein!

Standing,

Sitting,

Bouncing!!

Once Mommie and the twins are in the play area, getting down to their level is trick 'cause there's only the one opening available so, on my tummy with camera in hand, I'm ready to record some more history with my darlings!

Riggs has noticed something . . . will investigate further.

"Oh yea Dearie, I noticed you don't wear those shiney things on your ears anymore but the do-dahs you have on your face . . . very interesting! Look! I think I can pull them off with one hand!"

"for closer inspection, if you don't mind Dearie!"

"Now, these things are easy enough for me to handle . . . do you think I could teethe on this for a while?" Truly makes me wonder why I donated my last pair of glasses to the Lion's Club? Not that I'd have given Riggs the glasses but, I should have kept a spare pair on the off chance that he breaks the only ones I have left!! I quit wearing necklaces when the babies started tugging on them. Gave up earrings just this past Monday when Riggs decided he'd like to yank that shiney thing out of my ear. Maybe its time to reconsider contacts?? "NO" has no meaning yet and I don't know what else to do?

With my glasses back on my face, I thought Riggs might enjoy one of those little "puff" thingies!

"Remember Dearie, I eat / drink only what I need. I do not need these yucky puff things!"

Nearing time for dinner, Avery has a round of music bongos! Lights, sounds, action! That's Dearie's Darlings!! Simply darling!
