What you are seeing here are the last four ties for an end bumper, the body of the end bumper with the cording, my hand metal ruler and my roller cutter. Just the bumpers required 80 ties!
Yards and yards of piping had to be made in advance of any "construction!"
Then, its applying the cording to the fabric that was a real challenge. The suede over cord applied to the minky dot was not unlike stitching cardboard to kleenex.
Pins, pins and more pins. But, without them every inch or so, that minky dot fabric would just slip and slide around!!
Finally, ready to hand stitch the last bumper. Tucked inside each bumper section, I'd written a little something including the date on which I stitched that piece. Todays message: Riggs and Avery, I love you both to the moon and back and then, all the way to the stars! April 26, 2009 Love you, Dearie xoxoxo
What was really curious to me? Using my mother's old sewing machine (she'd given it to me when I left home all those years ago!), sitting in my mother-in-law's desk chair, upstairs in Anne and Tim's home, I managed to deliver to the twins what their great-grandmothers' would have wanted. A little something special for two very special little people . . . Dearie's Darlings!
