Summer Camp 2015 - Day 4

At home with the Ryans . . . three generations worth of 'em!

The pocket phone rang at about 4:45 . . . it was Mommie. I was just finishing up my Friday afternoon at the jewelry store. "Hey, do you want to come over and help feed the babies and visit with Nana and PopPop? I'm painting Tim's office and we're going to have take out for dinner." Now really, is there another answer other than yes? So, after putting away the tools for stringing and knotting those pearls, I was off to 107.

Daddy and PopPop had taken my Darlings for a stroll (and, big sis Abi went along for what she thought would be fun! YIKES!!! note to dog self, never again!) while Mommie was painting Daddy's new office upstairs with Nana . . . and then, I arrived.

With a brand spanking new canvas tarp covering the brand spanking new wood floors installed earlier this week, Dearie walked across the soon-to-be Daddy's new office. Mommie was busy painting the back wall (darn near the same color as the brand spanking new canvas tarp) and had left the edge cutting pad (yes, soaked in paint) face up on the brand spanking new canvas tarp so that Dearie could step on it! One shoe's sole was coated in paint and immediately removed for cleaning! Okay, I get that tended but am not going to risk even a drop of paint tracking across the brand spanking new wood floors . . . air footed, like the darlings, for the rest of the night!

Finally, Nana and I got to catch up, from their flight struggles to Dearie's stringing story about the South Sea pearls (transforming a necklace and bracelet into just a necklace?) to Nana's recovery from surgery on her left thumb. Just about half way through catch up, the three generations of Ryans returned from the stroll. It was time for dinner . . . not ours, dinner for the Darlings! Darlings transferred from the stroller to the high chairs, Dearie prepped the dinner: rice cereal with macaroni and cheese casserole with vegetables (a la Gerber) and some kind of fruit something (who can really figure out the cryptic representations of names on the Gerber tubs? Is there a handbook for deciphering these names??). Nana took on Avery (remember, normally a good eater!) and Dearie took on Riggs (normally a little fussy eater)

Not your typical Saturday . . . at all!!

It was just a little before 8:30 in the morning when I arrived. Mommie and Daddy were going to Auntie's daddy's funeral in Abbeville and Dearie didn't mind spending a few hours with her darlings! Both Avery and Riggs were playing in their play yard, seemingly content though still getting over the runny nose they'd brought home from Tahoe.

Clearly, Dearie wasn't the only one tuckered out. When Mommie and Daddy returned from Abbeville, Daddy chose to remain in his car for a rest. Having reclined the driver's seat, he slept in the car, parked in the open garage, for at least an hour before Dearie left. When Dearie got home, she took a nap . . . two hours worth of nap!

How does Mommie do it? She must have "drive on" hormones that the rest of us lack!! What a day . . . what an I-had-a-great-time-but-I'm-tuckered-out day!!

We're off to see the doctor, the wonderful doctor of "well"!

Oh my goodness . . . Mommie was going to Dr. Bailey's with two not-quite-100% babies! It was late in the afternoon and I thought I might be of assistance. Oh my! The Darlings were loaded in their push cart and ready for the big visit! Riggs with his ear ache and Avery, generally not feeling very perky!

A little visit before the Darlings take off for Austin!

I couldn't help myself. On the way out of Griffin, I called Anne and asked if it was okay to run by to see Avery and Riggs. "Sure, come on," was the reply so I headed out to 107. I arrived only to find Avery Kathryn sitting next to her Mommie on the sofa watching some movie! She looked at me when I called her name -- the look implied "we are watching this movie Dearie, I love you but I'm loving Mommie right now!!"

Getting ready for the Baptism of my darlings!

Daylight saving time and babies

My darlings have this notion: if the sun is shining, they should be awake and playing! With the sun setting far after their bedtime, something had to be done to help them stay on their schedule. Yeah Dearie!! With a little more than a yard of block-out lining, Dearie and Mommie fashioned a shade to hang over the shutters in the nursery so that the sunshine remains outside!

Wonder if the twins will become so accustomed to sleeping when its dark that they don't sleep when big light is visible . . . you know, when they start going to daycare, I don't think its going to be dark at naptime!!

The 4 Month Birthday!

My day was, once again, taken with my darlings. I could only be with them until bedtime last night but it was a day I couldn't have missed. Besides Avery and Riggs having a cold and sleeping not-so-well during the night, Mommie has a cold and wasn't getting enough rest to get well. So that Mommie could get a "good" nap, Dearie went to the house to help out. With Mommie sleeping, I got both babies to take their afternoon nap and filled my time with doing nothing more than working on the pillows for the sofas. Busy hands, busy mind.

The twins were dressed for their birthday digisnap but as evening closed in on us, it didn't seem that there would be a time when they weren't fussy so that Mommie could take the pictures. Just before bath time, Mommie was able to settle Avery down but Riggs' birthday picture will show just how unhappy the little fella was . . . he was crying 'cause all he wanted was to be held tight!
